Somersby Park residents are great of rallying together to work on projects around the community. On a sunny and warm January morning, a dozen volunteers removed the front gateway holiday lights. Smiles abound. We thank Kristen for her years of leading the Holidays Committee. Suzanne now takes the reins to spread good cheer.
Carolina blue skies were a welcomed sight as Somersby Park residents enjoyed a potluck feast under the old Mulberry tree. It’s always a good time to catch up with neighbors on the beautiful grounds we share and call home.
Residents gathered Saturday, July 5 at the town’s Laurel Green Park to mark a milestone. A Centennial picnic of BBQ, beer and festive jazz tunes were enjoyed by many on a summer afternoon . Laurel Park incorporated in 1925 but history dates back to its beginnings in the late 1800s as a recreation destination. Today nearly 3,000 people call it home including some of Somersby Park’s very own.
Every two weeks the men of Somersby Park gather for a hearty breakfast at a local restaurant or gathering spot for good food, fellowship and sharing plenty of stories and laughs.
Somersby Park residents were well represented at May’s Jump Off Rock concert. We’re thankful to have this scenic public park with its many offerings right above our neighborhood.
Somersby Park residents represented half of the attendants during Laurel Park’s “Community Eco-Enviro Workshop” presented by Steve Pettis of the NC Extension Service. The community learned about sustainable gardening practices, implementing wildfire-resistant landscaping and helping erosion control. Future meetings are scheduled as we continue to enhance our natural beauty and continue to enjoy living in the Western North Carolina mountains.
